Maura Cluthe

As Maura Cluthe states on her website, she doesn’t just “like” drawing, she loves it.

She also loves robots! She has a collection of watercolour robots which are great.

She makes quite a few collages as well mixing her drawings with text and photos. Personally, I’m not really into collages but I do like the one I have featured above with the robots!

Artist Statement:

Whenever somebody asks me “What kind of art do you do?”, I tend to struggle for an answer. “Cartoony, collage-y, mixed media stuff” might be the answer you get. Real intelligent eh? I guess the best way I can describe these pieces is to say that they are kinda like puzzles that I am trying to solve. How they turn out and what they end up being is led by an idea or feeling. Sometimes it’s an idea that I’ve drawn in my sketchbook or something that I’ve overheard, like a piece of a conversation. Once I have the idea, I mix it with whatever elements I have lying around in my studio that, when combined, solve that particular puzzle and thought. I usually have no idea how a piece is going to turn out or what it’s going to look like until I really get into it – and even then, it can change. I love that. I love not knowing and the surprise tha happens in the end.” (Maura Cluthe)

See her website to see a bunch of other fun robot drawings! I’ve included my favourite of her watercolour robot drawings below!
